Color Me Pink: Biology and Bedroom Paint

Pink bedrooms? Don’t ask me! I’m all about snips and snails, and puppy dog’s tails. British neuroscientists now claim the natural tendencies toward using the color pink has less to do with 19th Century nursery rhymes than biology. Time Magazine fashion maven Coco Masters reports that women are “biologically programmed” to favor the redder side of the spectrum.

Headlines seem to echo this suspicion:

The fashion underthings empire threw a “Phi Beta Pink Sorority House” party on wall-to-wall pink carpet for 250 fashion editors and members of the New York feminista cognoscenti.  Ten kegs of beer and pink beer bongs were festooned with Pink’s signature dog.  Read all about color and biology in Time.

Bloggers at Home Quotient report that, “the pink shade can change the entire look of your house. The very shade on your walls makes your room look wonderful.”  I suppose that depends on whether you have two X chromosomes.

Home Quotient adds,”The shade no longer remains the color of girls but brings a positive influence to your décor.”  If I ever get sent to rehab to cultivate a positive influence, please, please dear God, please don’t let it look like this.

I live with a couple and the female (and the male sometimes) are obsessed with pink. If something on her wardrobe isn’t pink, something is wrong. Thankfully they haven’t redone the entire house in pink….yet.

  2. Believe me, I’m a fan of pink in every way, but these rooms look like Pepto Bismol. Yuck!
