Simpson’s Replica: A Lot of House for the D’oh

More than a decade has passed, but I wonder how many of you remembered when Fox Television built a life-size replica of The Simpson’s cartoon family house and offered it as a prize to a lucky contestant who found the winning number in one of the sponsor’s product packages. The four bedroom, 2,200 square foot house was designed by Kaufman and Broad architects, who had to view more than one hundred Simpson’s episodes before they nailed down the designs.
The house was completed in the newly created Springfield subdivision in Henderson, Nevada, just outside Las Vegas. Kaufman and Broad issued details to the contractors who used 25 vivid primary colors to complete the replica that included a trademark mystery door that’s never been opened in the cartoon series.
Facts Are Meaningless
“What’s the point of going out? We’re just going to wind up back here anyway,” says Homer in a 1989 episode. He also said “facts are meaningless,” which may be why Kaufman and Broad went with yellow exteriors instead of the pink in this example.
Mmm…. 64 Slices of American Cheese
The Slice of Awesome blog has a full set of photos from the replica home in Henderson, completed with Marge’s decorating scheme. The kitchen is a marvel of flattery. Plate of donuts, anyone?

Contaminated has additional photos of the real-life replica. Speaking of failures, the winners of the contest refused to move to Nevada, so the house was ultimately repainted and sold to someone who just wanted a conventional home. What boors!
And by the way…Happy Thanksgiving!

I am a huge Simpsons fan, but it would take alot more than a free house to get me to move to Nevada! Now Springfield or Shelbyville? maybe……..
That is awesome…someone has some expendable income as well as being a huge fan of the Simpsons. Hopefully the Simpsons at least give them the DVD collection of the show or something of value!
Thanks for posting this! I have wondered for years about the replica house and tried internet searches with no luck. I thought about the “real” Simpson’s house just last night and decided to try another search….SUCCESS! I was beginning to think I was nuts!!!
