Tables for Techies

I can’t see the need for any of these stylish, digitized coffee tables. But then again, I have little need to impress my friends who are all on the downside of the gamer generation. I’m sure YOU know someone who would die for one of these tech toppers. I’m satisfied with having a laptop and anything faster than dial-up. The kid in me may ogle at one of these for a moment, but I’d rather have a rag-top sports car.
Walk Like an Egyptian
Named after the falcon-headed Egyptian sun god, the Horus table was created by French designer Stéphane Thivend. Just plug your iPod into its pyramid and blast your tunes while transfixed by two dozen pre-set LED light shows.
Game, Set, Match
British brainchildren have come up with this wi-fi capable gaming table with a 19″ LCD screen, a gig of RAM, and 160GB of storage in the dual-processor PC embedded under the surface. The playing console resembles those Atari arcade platforms, but is up-to-date and up-to-speed for multiple players. Oh, and it will set you back $6,600. Find out more at Born Rich.
Fishtank Follies
You can run the screen-saver program of your choice on Retro-tech’s Platinum Coffee Table and impress yourself! Outfitted with an Intel dual-core processor and wireless peripherals, the table connects via wi-fi to your HDTV, the Web, and external audio systems. And, it looks like a coffee table! Expect to pay between $3,000 and $5,000 depending on your choice of components. Read more about it at Tom’s Hardware.
Sneaky Geeky
The Stealth multimedia coffee table not only looks the part, but plays it, too. Fitted for Bluetooth operation, it offers wi-fi, gaming ports, 3D graphics, stereo sound, and a 19-inch display.
I’m wowed, but it’s still not my thing. Feel free to forward this post to your children.

My son doesn’t own a coffee table in this economy, much less an electronic-wonder coffee table for $6,000!
